Last Two Interviews

(Below is a picture of my Planning Wall!) :)
The last two people that I interviewed were Dr. Roberts and Dr. Foster. What I asked these two doctors was what inspired them to become Ob/gyn and what was the most challenging part for them on their route to becoming a doctor.

Response from Dr. Roberts: I would have to say that I wasn't entirely inspired to become an Ob/ gyn until I was able to actually experience working in that field while I was doin my residency in medical school. When I was younger, like around the age of 5, I had always visioned myself being a police officer. When I got older I grew a liking to science and I had decided that I wanted to go into the medical feild to become a doctor. While I was in college, I wasn't to sure about what type of doctor I wanted to be, but I did know that I wanted to be one. The part that I found most challenging on my way to becoming a doctor was in college. Since I majored in Biology, I had to take a few chemistry courses as well. Chemistry was rough for me in college. I thought that it was very challening, but with my friends and family and of course help from outside sources, I was able to overcome my problems.

Response from Dr. Foster: I was inspired to become an Ob/ gyn when I was younger. It was when I was able to go in to one myself that I saw the work that they do. I believe that Ob/gyn are important in this world for woman. There are so many specialized doctors, and an Ob/gyn is one that is very important for woman. I learned this at a young age and I had made up in my mind that that was what I was going to be. School for me in high school was challenging. I wasn't the best with grades and I use to be a trouble maker. When I discovered that I wanted to be a doctor, a lot of people thought that I was joking but I wasn't. When I went to college, classes only got harder, but I was dtermined to stick with what I wanted to be and that is jsut who I became.

Second Set of Interviews

This week I interviewed Dr. Keith. This week I focused my interview around how he felt after he accomplished becoming a doctor. I also asked him what helped him through his journey on becoming a doctor as well.

Response from Dr. Keith:
The life after becoming a doctor is great for me only because this was my only true passion. Many people may only become doctors becasuse of the payroll, but I have always wanted to be a doctor. It was something I had planned on becoming from when I was a young child. There were many of times where I thought that I wanted to throw in the towel and give up because the work was challenging, but I had to remember that I was putting in the work for what I wanted in the end. I even remember a time when I broke down and cried to one of my friends about how I was stressed out and how I was going to give up on becoming a doctor. I was a mess and I really think that I could go through with everything. The advice that my friend gave to me that day helped me to move on and to continue. Once I finished with everything and finally became Dr. Keith, I felt complete. A lot of people complain about how much schooling it takes to become a doctor, but if that's what a person desires to be then they should do what they need to do to accomplish it! I am glad that I decided to stick with my dream that I made as a young child. Working as a doctor never bores me because I love what I do!

It was hard for me to reach some of the other contacts this week, but I will blog sooner or later if able to be reached.

Interviews

Two people that I intervied are Dr. Michael Appiegye and Dr. Chris Warner. Both of these doctors are Ob/Gyn.

One main question that was the focus of my interview for both of the doctors was "At which point on your pathway on becoming a doctor did you struggle with the most, and what helped you to overcome it??"

Response from Dr. Chris Warner:
Well since there were many times were I wanted to give up on becoming a doctor, I would have to say the part that I struggled with the most was in medical school. Getting into medical school was hard enough and the work that had to be done was even harder. It was many of times were I thought I wanted to give up on becoming a doctor, but then I had to realize that I was only a few steps away on becoming one. The work requires much focus and one must be determined if they want to become a doctor. Another thing that always helped me to stay on track and focus were people. I had certain friends that were always there to give me that extra push that I need to help me through medical school. They would encourage me to keep striving and to continue on with what I was doing. I also had my father who was a huge influence on my life that helped me through my hard times. With him being a heart surgeon, he knew what I was going through and knew the right words to say to me to help me continue on.

Response from Dr. Michael Appiegye
One point in my life when I thought that I wasn't going to be able to accomplish my goal of becoming an Ob/Gyn was when I was in undergrad. Being pre-med was challenging because college is full of fun and parties, but in the end college is really for one thing, and that is your future. It helps create your future. With that being said, along my journey of my start of becoming an OB/Gyn, my first couple of years in college were not the best years for me because I didn't have that in mind. The workload was heavy and I didn't think that I was going to even be able to see a bachelor's degree. What helped me to get back on track with what I was doing was a friend of my family who had went through the whole process of becoming a doctor. He told me that what I was going through at that time would only become worse. I thought that that was definitely not a way to lift my spirits and encourage me to reach my goals, but it definitely was a wake up call for me. If I had set my mind to become a doctor, I knew that hard was was going to be needed. The road ahead for me was still tough though but in the end you can say that it was a greater reward.
